Next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques have greatly improved our ability to study genomes and transcriptomes of plants, leading to the discovery of new metabolic pathways. By using NGS, we are identifying genes that are involved in the synthesis of specialized metabolites, and study the regulation of their expression in response to environmental stimuli or developmental cues.
